Live Long and Prosper

Leonard Nimoy/Mr. Spock was the first person I remember talking about logic. As a child, I did not want to be Captain Kirk in games, I wanted to be the Vulcan.

When I think about the passing of a person from life into the “undiscovered country,” I wonder–How did she/he influence me? How can my life somehow be a conduit for continuing the creativity of this other?

Because Nimoy’s portrayal of Spock was so formative on me, I know that it helped ensure my love of philosophy and the rational mind. But furthermore, I kept coming back to this half-human/half-Vulcan over the years as I struggled with my own issues of self-control, emotional outburst, and rational exploration.

Rest in peace, good brother.

Live long and prosper.
